    He ran moonshine for his bootlegging uncle.
    He boasted he was 'the most disqualified driver in history.'
    He raced with a pet monkey named Jocko as his 'co-driver.'
    The monkey cost him a win at the Raleigh 300 when he had to make an unplanned pit stop after Jocko was struck in the face by a pebble and started racing around the cockpit, clawing at Tim (May 30, 1953).
    He was married to Frances Flack for 53 years.
    He won 21% of the races he entered, a NASCAR record.
    His colorful personality made him a fan favorite.
    He was banned from NASCAR for trying to form the drivers into a union (1961).
