Military Personnel
    (April 26, 1826-December 21, 1872)
    Fought at the battles of Seven Days, Second Bull Run, Petersburg, Antietam, Chancellsorville, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbour and Fredericksburg (1861-1865)
    Member of the Georgia State Senate (1863)
    Owner of the Augusta Chronicle and Sentinel newspaper (1866-1872)
    Elected Member of the U.S House of Representatives (1872)
    He fought for a side which supported slavery.
    He liked to be called by the nickname 'Rans.'
    Despite being a member of Georgia State Senate he never attended a meeting of Senate due to war responsibilities.
    He rose from the rank of Private to the rank of Major General in the space of four years.
    He died before taking seat as a Member of the House of Representatives.
    His part in the Gettysburg campaign was perhaps the Confederates most successful of the campaign.
    He was wounded fighting at the Battle of Antietam.
