    (February 8, 1894-September 11, 1956)
Ace Pilot for the Royal Air Force during WW I
He wanted to be a lawyer, but he wasn't a good enough student.
He entered a military academy because he couldn't get into a real university.
He failed his first year studies at the academy.
He missed several major battles because of sickness and injury.
Though Canadian, he fought with the British during the war.
After the war, he failed at several business ventures.
He made recruitment videos for the RAF.
He wrote an autobiography titled 'Winged Warfare.'
He volunteered to serve with the British because the Canadians hadn't joined the war yet.
He shot down 72 enemy planes.
25 of those happened within a month.
In a solo mission, he shot down 3 planes and destroyed 7 others on the ground.
He was angry at the Canadian government for recalling him from duty to start the Canadian Air Corps.
He flew a solo mission on his last day and shot down 5 planes in 15 minutes of combat.
He lived in his brother's shadow for many years.
He was the British Empire's second-greatest pilot.
During the Korean War, he offered to return to service, but was refused because of poor health.
A play was made about his life, which renewed his hero status in both Canada and Britain.
The decorations he received include the Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order & Bar, Military Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Honor Chevalier, and the Croix de Guerre with palm.
He was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the King's Birthday Honours List.
He had a drink named after him, the Billy Bishop Shooter, which is supposed to be served only to Canadian veterans one day a year.
A fake discredited documentary about him claimed he made up much of his actions.
