    Sprinter turned wide receiver
    Won Olympic gold medals in the 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay (1964)
    Played for the Dallas Cowboys (1965-74) and San Francisco 49ers (1975)
    Three time pro bowl selection (1965-67)
    Inducted into the Cowboys' Ring of Honor (2001)
    Wrote 'Run, Bullet, Run: The Rise, Fall and Recovery of Bob Hayes'
    He went to rehab three times.
    He spent 10 months in jail for dealing cocaine and quaaludes (1979).
    His legal and drug problems kept him out of the Football Hall of Fame.
    He complained, 'I won gold medals representing this country, but I've gotten more recognition around the world than I have in my own back yard.'
    He was the first (and as of 2008 only) athlete to win both an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring.
    He was so fast, he forced teams to develop the zone defense to cover him.
