A scandal involving his sponsor Astana caused Contador to not compete in the 2008 Tour de France.
When seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong came out of retirement to compete in the 2009 Tour de France, Contador showed feelings of resentment and bitterness toward him.
When then-team leader Andy Schleck's chain fell off during stage 15 of the 2010 Tour de France, Contador attacked enough to retrieve the yellow jersey status back.
Two months after he won his third Tour de France, he admitted he failed a urine test, yet he maintained his innocence.
He and disgraced cyclist Floyd Landis continued exhaustively trying to prove that Lance Armstrong doped during his 1999-2005 victories.
Why he might not be annoying
He has been referred to as the best climbing specialist and stage racer in the world.
Despite the lack of preparation, he won the 2008 Giro d'Italia.
He later emphasized the importance of this win by saying that 'taking part in the Giro and winning it was a really big achievement, bigger than if I'd had a second victory in the Tour de France.'
He won the Vélo d'Or award for the best rider of the year two consecutive times.
He won his third Tour de France title despite not winning a single stage.
