The Resume

    (September 15, 1916-July 15, 1990)
    Born in Karachi, Pakistan
Acted in 'Lady Vanishes,' 'Susannah of the Mounties,' 'The Stars Look Down,' 'Night Train to Munich,' 'A Place of One's Own,' 'The Wicked Lady,' and 'Bedelia'
Acted in stage versions of 'Peter Pan,' 'Pygmalion,' 'Private Lives,' and 'Spider's Web'
    Mother to actress, Julia Lockwood
Consistently ranked in the Top 5 British stars between 1945 and 1949

Why she might be annoying:

She was typecast as ‘the dark lady.’
    She was divorced.
Her mother sided against her when she sought full custody for her daughter, citing her as an ‘unfit mother’ (the two refused to speak afterward).
When her mother complimented Margaret’s performance in ‘The Wicked Lady,’ she said, ‘that wasn’t acting, that was natural.’
Her career fizzled out by the early fifties.
Her trademark was a mole on high her left cheek.
The mole was actually a ‘beauty spot,’ painted on during the filming of ‘A Place of One’s Own.’
Her original stage name was Margie Day before she reverted back to her birth name (thank god).
She played second fiddle to Shirley Temple in ‘Susannah of the Mounties.’

Why she might not be annoying:

She starred in one of Alfred Hitchcock’s last authentically British films, ‘The Lady Vanishes.’
Her role in ‘The Wicked Lady’ caused a stir with censors for what was termed ‘revealing cleavage.’
She complained to her studio head about being typecast by saying that she was ‘sick of sinning.'
She was so tired of playing corrupt/evil women that she turned down the coveted lead role in Fox’s ‘Forever Amber.’
Linda Darnell was cast as Amber, instead, and the film subsequently flopped.
She had a brief comeback in the 1970s as a female barrister in the TV series, ‘Justice.’
Her mother was described as a domineering woman who emotionally abused her daughter.
She was so afraid of her mother finding out she was married that she avoided living with her husband for the first six months of the marriage.
She was appointed a Dame in the Order of the British Empire on New Year’s Eve of 1981.
She is the third ‘actress daughter of the Raj’ (after Vivien Leigh and Merle Oberon).
Her fan site, The Margaret Lockwood Society, is awesome
