The Resume

    (1946- )
    Located in Atlanta, Georgia
Formerly known as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks (1946-51), Milwaukee Hawks (1951-55), and St. Louis Hawks (1955-68)
Played in the National Basketball League (1946-49)
    Won one NBA championship (1958)
Three retired numbers: Bob Pettit's #9, Dominique Wilkins' #21, and Lou Hudson's #23
Other former and current players include Spud Webb, Dikembe Mutombo and Alan Henderson

Why they might be annoying:

They once were the Tri-Cities Blackhawks because they played in three different cities (Moline and Rock Island in Illinois, and Davenport in Iowa).
Ted Turner once owned the team, and Turner Sports used to exclusively show Hawks games.
They had a logo that looked like a red Pac-Man (though it was really a hawk's head in a circle).
Since their glory days of the 1950's and 1960's, they never reached the conference finals.
They drafted Bob Cousy and Bill Russell in the first round, but they both went to greatness with the Celtics.
Despite playing in the very nice Phillips Arena, they have among the NBA's sparsest crowds.
Then-coach Lon Kruger promised season ticket holders that they'd get some of their money back if the Hawks didn't make the postseason. Not only did the Hawks fail to make the playoffs, the NBA wouldn't allow the refund.

Why they might not be annoying:

They are one of the NBA's oldest teams.
Red Auerbach was their coach in their first season in the NBA.
Lenny Wilkins broke the record for most NBA coaching wins and won his 1,000th game while a coach with the Hawks.
They gave the world Dominique 'The Human Highlight Reel' Wilkins and Spud Webb.
They were the first NBA team to play in the Soviet Union (1988).
They hosted the NBA game with the highest ever attendance when they played the Bulls (62,046).
Ted Turner no longer owns the team.
