Military Personnel

The Resume

    (1903- )
    Born in Kansas
Reserve unit of the United States military
Service is on a volunteer basis
Split into two sectors: The Army Nation Guard, and the Air National Guard
Was run as individual state militias beginning with the Revolutionary War, before being officially organized into a united reserve in 1903

Why they might be annoying:

    They own guns.
They don't have a football team.
National Guard members came to Kent State University to break up anti-war riots, and ended up killing four people.
They assisted in relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina, for all the good that did.
An act was signed by Congress that took them out of the power of state governors, and instead in the hands of the President of the United States.
Like the other branches of the military, they incessantly recruit high school students.
They are not a college or university, so therefore they do not offer college credits to their members.
They caused some controversy in 2005 when they advertised non-stop on Channel One News.

Why they might not be annoying:

It helps defend the greatest nation of all time, The United States of America.
Their number of active soldiers has been strained due to the War on Terror.
Back when it was controlled by state governors, they broke up many violent riots.
Since 2003, they have been a NASCAR, appearing on cars driven by Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt, Jr..
Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, Harry S Truman and George W. Bush (maybe) have all served in the Nation Guard.
It's a great alternative to those interested in military service but do not feel ready yet to tackle full-time military service.
Even though they do not offer college credits, they still offer to help pay college tuition for its recruits.
