    His catch phrase was 'Yeahhhh, buddy!'
    He smoked.
    While singing 'You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine' live during the 1977 Grammy awards, he had a coughing fit that ruined the performance.
    He did TV commercials for Conseco and Colonial Penn Life Insurance.
    He was arrested and charged with battery against his future wife (January 16, 2003).
    He became a father at age 71.
    He tried to have is marriage to his second wife annulled.
    As he lay dying in a hospital, his second wife and daughter from his first marriage fought over his estate.

    He did a lot of community service and charitable work.
    He hosted annual telethons for the United Negro College Fund, raising over $200 million.
    He had a four-octave vocal range.
    He is a multiple Grammy winner.
