Comedian
    (April 9, 1935-January 7, 2002)
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
Frequently partnered with fellow comedian Jack Burns
Together, recorded the albums ‘In One Head and Out the Other’ (1965), ‘Burns & Schreiber’s Pure B.S.’ (1973) and ‘The Watergate Comedy Hour’ (1974)
Co-hosted ‘The Burns and Schreiber Comedy Hour’ (1973)
Portrayed Captain Manzini on My Mother the Car (1965-66)
Appeared in the films ‘Don’t Drink the Water’ (1969), ‘The Last Remake of Beau Geste’ (1977), ‘The Concord: Airport ‘79’ (1979), ‘Caveman’ (1981), ‘Cannonball Run II’ (1984), ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights’ (1993) and ‘Dracula: Dead and Loving It’ (1995)
With his walrus mustache and Jewfro, he looked like Gene Shalit.
He was one of the stars of ‘My Mother the Car,’ widely considered one of the worst sitcoms of all time.
After he and Burns spilt up (1974), his highest-profile gigs were as a frequent guest on Match Game and as a Doritos pitchman.
He probably only got to host The Muppet Show because Jack Burns was the show’s head writer.
He enlisted in the Army, was assigned to the entertainment division, and directed 86 variety shows before he was discharged.
While a member of the Second City comedy troupe, he created a ‘samurai landlord’ character that John Belushi would ‘borrow’ from after joining Saturday Night Live.
He won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Performance for his appearance in ‘Ovid’s Metamorphoses.’ (1971)
Fellow Second City alum Joan Rivers said, ‘He had that buffoon look, but he was very smart.’
