The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He, along with his predecessor, Cam Bonifay are hated by Pirates fans, some of which think his reign was worse then Bonifay's.
He was a horrendous evaluator for baseball talent.
On top of that, he was considered incredibly cheap.
He was despised by his peers, who considered him extremely difficult to negotiate with.
He made trade requests, which were seen as being excessive and unreasonable.
He often traded established players for little value in return.
He took Bryan Bullington with the first overall pick in the 2002 MLB Draft, passing on the consensus pick, B.J. Upton.
He lost his top five prospects in the 2003 Rule 5 Draft, one of them being Jose Bautista and didn't bother to take quality prospects available from other teams.
He assembled a Pirates team that finished no higher then 4th place in the NL Central.
He preferred to draft players based on their signing affordability, rather then on talent itself.
He failed to put an emphasis on scouting Latin America, which in turn made the Pirates one of the least active for signing talent from that region.
His inability to develop impact talent, along with a stagnant prospect pool led to his firing from Pittsburgh.
His impact with the Pirates was so bad, that every player he acquired was traded or released from the team, within two years of his firing.

Why he might not be annoying:

He played both baseball and football at the University of Massachusetts.
His work with low budget teams garnered him consideration for the Pirates general manager position.
His supporters say that his decisions to dump established veterans for little in return was forced on him by the team's owner, Kevin McClatchy.
He was able to acquire Jason Bay in a trade, who would later go on to earn the NL Rookie of the Year Award under his watch.
He continued to work in various front office capacities for different clubs in the years following his dismissal from Pittsburgh.
