Why he might be annoying:

He went into acting only after failing three times to pass the test to receive his secondary school diploma.
Although considered a legend of French cinema, he became internationally known for his roles in two Italian films, 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'Il Postino.'
He smoked two cigars a day for 50 years.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married to Monique Chaumette for 44 years until his death.
He won praise for his portrayal of Pablo Neruda in 'Il Postino' despite neither looking nor sounding like Neruda.
The French prime minister said he 'knew how to seize and express something within the French soul.'
