The Resume

    (April 14, 1966- )
Pitcher for Chicago Cubs (1986-92, 2004-06), Atlanta Braves (1993-2003), Los Angeles Dodgers (2006, 2008) and San Diego Padres (2007-08)

    Eight-time National League All-Star (1988, 92, 94-98, 2000)
Member of three National League championship teams with the Braves, including the 1995 World Series champions Braves
Four-time Cy Young Award winner (1992-95)
    18 time Gold Glove winner
    22nd pitcher to win 300 games (August 7, 2004)

Why he might be annoying:

He looks like a high school teacher or a computer geek.
Before getting lasik eye surgery, he wore contact lenses when he pitched and glasses when not on the mound.
His fastball can't even reach 90 mph on a good day.
After he won his first Cy Young Award with the Cubs in 1992, he left the Cubs and signed a free-agent contract with the Braves.
His older brother, Mike Maddux, was also a major league pitcher, but he had a journeyman career and was far less successful.
The Braves made it to the post-season during every season that he pitched for them (except strike-shortened 1994), but only one the World Series once.
His ERA topped 4.00 for the majority of the mid-to-late 2000s.

Why he might not be annoying:

He won 15 or more games in 17 consecutive seasons, breaking the record set by Cy Young.
He won 13 consecutive Gold Glove awards.
With 176 wins during the 1990's, he was baseball's winningest pitcher during the decade.
Four times in his career he posted an ERA two runs below his league's average.
He had a 2.09 ERA in five World Series starts.
After he won his first Cy Young Award with the Cubs in 1992, the parsimonious Cubs management refused to pay him what he was worth, so he left the Cubs and signed with the team with the best starting rotation in baseball, the Atlanta Braves.
When the Cubs were a leading contender in the National League, possessing one of the best starting rotations in baseball, he returned to the Cubs by signing a free-agent contract with the team prior to the start of the 2004 season.
On Sept. 29, 1986 against the Philadelphia Phillies, he defeated his brother Mike, 8-3, in the first-ever pitching matchup between rookie brothers.
He possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of hitters and retains and processes information like a computer.
He achieved phenomenal success without one defining or unhittable pitch, but instead with complete command and pinpoint accuracy.
He went to high school in Las Vegas and lived there during the off-season.
He raises and donates money to charities and causes through the Greg Maddux Foundation.
He was a first ballot selection to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame (January 8, 2014).
