The Resume

    (February 21, 1897-October 12, 1979)
    Born in Vienna, Austria
Birth name was Cäcilia Josefina Lvovsky
    Married Peter Lorre (1934-45)
Portrayed T’Pau in the Star Trek episode ‘Amok Time’
Appeared in the films ‘Twice Married’ (1930), ‘Captain Carey, U.S.A.’ (1950), ‘New York Confidential’ (1955), ‘The Man of a Thousand Faces’ (1957), ‘Hitler’ (1962), ‘Harlow’ (1965), ‘The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre’ (1967), and ‘Soylent Green’ (1973)

Why she might be annoying:

She was usually cast as European dowagers
Although she did perform a couple of times as an American Indian -- with an unexplained Viennese accent.
She had trouble performing the Vulcan salute as T’Pau, so she manipulated the fingers of her left hand into the correct position before raising it into the field of the camera.

Why she might not be annoying:

She brought Lorre to the attention of director Fritz Lang, leading to his breakthrough role in Lang’s ‘M.’
Lorre insisted that she not act during their marriage, believing the man should be the sole breadwinner.
Portraying Lon Chaney’s deaf mother in ‘The Man of a Thousand Faces,’ she delivered all her dialogue in American Sign Language.
Leonard Nimoy and screenwriter Theodore Sturgeon both felt she was ‘perfect’ as T’Pau.
