Why they might be annoying:

Some of its members have used their Marine skills for criminal purposes.
Most of its recent actions have been largely land-based, but it was intended to fight at sea.
It was not lead by a general officer until the Civil War.
It is part of the Department of the Navy but not part of the United States Navy (weird, huh?).
It has the lowest percentage of women of all the armed forces.
Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who assassinated John F. Kennedy, was a former Marine.
It trains heavily for the D-Day type scenario, which is unlikely to be repeated again.
Even though they train for D-Day, they never even participated in the first one. It was carried out by the US Army.

Why they might not be annoying:

Its members have committed countless numbers of heroic acts.
Marines guard US Embassies, the White House and numerous other government institutions.
It has never lost a war (it was ordered out of Vietnam, not defeated).
    It emphasizes rifle marksmanship.
It is actually older than the United States.
Marines are usually the first soldiers (except for special forces) sent into combat.
Many of its members remain closely bonded to each other even after leaving the Marines.
Seven Marines single-handedly overthrew the dictator of Tripoli.
It arguably has the toughest training of all the armed services.
It has the best snipers in the US armed forces.
