Why he might be annoying:

After he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for ‘The Alamo,' he launched one of the most relentless self-promotion campaigns in Oscar history.
An ad declaring ‘We of the Alamo cast are praying harder than the real Texans prayed for their lives in the Alamo for Chill Wills to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor' drew a public rebuke from Alamo star/producer John Wayne.
He served as master of ceremonies for George Wallace's California campaign stops during Wallace's 1968 run for the presidency.

Why he might not be annoying:

He provided the voice for Francis the Talking Mule in seven pictures, but went uncredited.
His name inspired the cartoon character Chilly Willy.
An Oscar ad listing the Academy members with the comment, ‘Win, lose or draw, you're all my cousins and I love you all,' drew from Groucho Marx an ad responding, ‘Dear Chill: I am delighted to be your cousin, but I voted for Sal Mineo.'
