The Resume

    (February 16, 1930-February 27, 2023)
    Born in Fort Pierce, Florida
Best known for his underwater stunt work as ‘Gill-Man’ in the ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ (1954) and its two sequels (‘Revenge of the Creature,’ 1955, and ‘The Creature Walks Among Us,’ 1956)
Directed the films 'Salty (1973)' and 'No More Mr. Legs (1978)

Why he might be annoying:

He and on-land Gill-Man actor Ben Chapman both went uncredited in ‘Creature,’ despite playing the film’s titular character.
He claimed he would still get phone call from people who wanted him to come to their parties in costume, swim in their pool and scare people.
He worked on ‘Caddyshack,’ filming the underwater sequences at the pool party scene from the perspective of the candy bar (you know, the candy bar that gets mistaken for excrement?).
He said: ‘As far as I see it, Creature from the Black Lagoon was just another movie and it was just another job. I've done many things since then that I am much more proud of. But I've gotten more reaction out of the Creature thing than anything else. Well, I guess that's life!’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was on the United States Air Force swim team.
He was a stunt diver in Disney’s ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.’
He is the only actor to appear in all three installments of the Gill-Man franchise.
He directed the underwater sequences of both ‘Thunderball (1965)’ and its remake, ‘Never Say Never Again (1983).’
He was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2012.
He was inducted into the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards' Monster Hall of Fame in 2018.
At the time of his death, he was considered the last surviving original actor of the Universal Classic Monster movies.
