    He was a hypochondriac who showed up at his brother's wedding wearing so many overcoats that he could not fit into the pews.
    After getting a job at the Mazarin Library, he went on sick leave, which he extended for several years.
    He lived at his parents' apartment until they both died, during his early 30s.
    Graham Greene called him 'the greatest novelist of the 20th century'.'
    After reading 'In Search of Lost Time,' Virginia Woolf said, 'Oh, if I could write like that!'
    The town of Illers, which inspired his fictional village of Combray, renamed itself Illers-Combray to celebrate the centennial of his birth.
    He inspired Monty Python's 'Summarize Proust' sketch.
