Why he might be annoying:

He and Stark are jointly known as 'the Michaels.'
They named their dogs Mikey and Schmikey.
He campaigned against Stephen Harper with the comment, 'I am beginning to feel like a Jew in Germany in the early 1930s.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He won a landmark human rights case that granted government pensions and benefits to the partners of gay civil servants (1992).
In his affadavit to the Ontario Court of Appeals, he wrote 'Being denied a marriage licence suggests that Mike and I do not love each other, and that our hopes, our dreams, our life together do not exist.'
He and Stark were named Canadian Newsmakers of the Year by 'Time.'
He said, 'I'm rather hard on the gay and lesbian community in part because I think there's too much emphasis on why you should feel sorry for yourself. Social change will happen as quickly as you're willing to move it.'
