The Resume

    (660 BC-December 31, 46 BC)
    Born in Rome, Italy
    Lunar calendar
Months either contained 30 or 29 days

Why Roman Calendar might be annoying:

It was not precise. The days of the year varied.
Christians consider it to be a pagan calendar.
Months with 29 days were considered unlucky and were called 'hollow.'
Days of the month were counted backwards.
Although the leap month was supposed to alternate years, there were several screw ups.
The guy in charge of deciding when to add leap months to the calendar was a politician. So when his cronies were in office, he would add days.
A leap month of Mercedonius made the calendar 377 or 378 days long.
Augustus was born on September 23, 63 B.C.E. Due to discrepancies in the calender Augustus celebrated his birthday on both September 23rd and 24th.
A week consisted of 8 days.
Years had names and not numbers.
New Years was sometimes in May or July but usually around March 15th.

Why Roman Calendar might not be annoying:

It contained tons of holidays and festivals.
This was an outgrowth of the Calendar of Romulus and the Numa Civil Calendar.
In 153 B.C.E., January 1st was designated as the beginning of the year.
There are many clues in the Ancient Roman calendar allowing historians to figure out the Julian equivalent.
