U.S. Senator

The Resume

    (May 13, 1977- )
    Born in Dardanelle, Arkansas
American politician, army veteran, and lawyer
Former Infantry officer and platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division (2005-2009)
Represented Arkansas' 4th congressional district from 2013 until 2015
Elected to the US Senate in November 2014
Author of the controversial letter to the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran, signed by 47 of the Senate's 54 Republicans (Mar. 9, 2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He was called Sarah Palin with a Harvard degree.
But, if anything, he was groomed as a 'newer,' 'younger,' and 'hipper' version of Ted Cruz.
He's a darling of the Right who had Fauxcahontas for a Harvard Professor (his supporters' name for her not ours).
He likened himself to Winston Churchill in his maiden address to the Senate.
Rolling Stone Magazine joked that he looked like Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates in 'Psycho.'
He was accused of relying excessively on right-wing talking points when running for Senate (using the word 'Obama' over 74 times in a single debate).
He claimed that those signing up for the Affordable Care Act would be rendered susceptible to identity theft by Russian hackers.
His authorship of the Iran letter led to widespread accusations of sedition, treason, and violation of the Logan Act, with Secretary of State John Kerry calling the letter 'utterly disgusting' and 'irresponsible.'
The ensuing outrage over the letter resulted in the creation of the trending hashtag, #47traitors, as well as a petition calling for him to be tried for violating the Logan Act, which forbids unauthorized parties from negotiating with foreign regimes (gaining over 200,000 signatures as of Mar. 12, 2015).
Bob Schieffer was dog-piled by conservatives for asking him if he planned to write North Korea next, during his 'Face the Nation' segment (Mar. 15, 2015).
He called for three New York Times journalists to be tried for espionage for publishing an article on a classified terror detainee program under the Bush Administration in 2006, but he stands by writing to a foreign regime that the President can't be trusted to negotiate effectively and that any negotiation could potentially be overturned by Congress.

Why he might not be annoying:

At age 37, he became the youngest U.S. Senator in the 114th US Congress.
He was named 'most likely to succeed' by Politico. (Nov. 2014)
He one-upped even Sen. Ted Cruz by sending shockwaves through the national discourse before even giving his first speech on the Senate floor.
He deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. (May 19, 2006)
He deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. (2008-2009)
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal after his second tour in Afghanistan.
He received the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
The explosive outrage over the Iran Letter drew attention away from the ensuing controversy over former Rep. Aaron Schock's extravagance and lavish spending (probably warranting at least an edible arrangement and a thank you note).
