Best known for portraying Gold Hat in ‘The Treasure of the Sierra Madre’ (1948)
Also appeared in ‘While Mexico Sleeps’ (1938), ‘The Three Musketeers’ (1942), ‘Wild Flower’ (1943), ‘The Pearl’ (1947), ‘Streets of Laredo’ (1949), ‘The Fortunes of Captain Blood’ (1950), ‘Man in the Saddle’ (1951), ‘The Stranger Wore a Gun’ (1953), ‘Ten Wanted Men’ (1955) and ‘The Big Country’ (1958)

Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of school and ran away from home when he was fourteen.
Heavy drinking undermined his health.
He died in a hotel room after a night of partying with a manicurist.
He is remembered for a single line – one that often gets misquoted as ‘Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges!’

Why he might not be annoying:

He made over 175 films in Mexico.
During filming of ‘The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,’ he was a frequent target of practical jokes by Humphrey Bogart and John Huston.
His line ‘Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges!’ ranked #36 in AFI’s ‘100 Years…100 Movie Quotes.’
