Why Doogie Howser, M.D. might be annoying:

    It was part of the late 80s 'dramedy' trend.
    Doogie complained about people not taking him seriously, but never thought about asking people to call him 'Douglas' instead of 'Doogie.'
    By the last two seasons, Harris was 19-20 and Doogie looked like a normal medical intern, which undercut the whole 'boy genius' premise.
    It had a 'very special episode' of Doogie losing his virginity.
    It was cancelled abruptly by ABC, keeping Bochco from completing the story line.

Why Doogie Howser, M.D. might not be annoying:

    It won a People's Choice Award for favorite new comedy.
    Doogie was presented as a normal teen instead of a stereotypical geek.
    It gave Harris a clean-cut image he could spoof in 'Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.'
    Following the revelations of Harris' sexuality, the repeated scenes of Vinnie climbing through Doogie's window take on a new meaning.
