Vocalist

The Resume

    (October 3, 1988- )
Born in Harlem, New York City, New York
Birth name was Rakim Athelaston Mayers
    Member of the A$AP Mob
    Recorded the albums 'Long.Live.A$AP' (2013), 'At.Long.Last.A$AP' (2015), and 'Testing' (2018)
Recorded the singles 'F**kin' Problems' (featuring Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar, 2012), 'LSD' (2015), and 'Praise the Lord (Da Shine)' (featuring Skepta, 2018)
Featured artist on 'Good for You' by Selena Gomez (2015) and 'No Limit' by G-Eazy (2017)

Why he might be annoying:

He sold marijuana and crack as a teen, eventually serving two weeks in Rikers Island for drug dealing (2004).
He was arrested for assault the night before his scheduled network TV debut on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, which had to be bumped back a month (2012).
He dated Iggy Azalea, who celebrated by getting 'Live,' 'Love,' and 'A$AP' tattoos on her fingers (and had the 'A$AP' one crossed out after their breakup).
He was arrested for assaulting two photographers who took pictures of him fighting with another man (July, 2012); he agreed to a plea bargain in which assault charges were dropped in exchange for his pleading guilty to attempted larceny for trying to grab the cameras.
He was arrested for assault after reportedly slapping a female fan at the Budweiser Made in America Festival (August 31, 2013); the case was dismissed when prosecution witnesses failed to appear in court.
He and two members of his entourage were arrested for assault after a brawl in the streets of Stockholm (June 30, 2019).
His arrest and pre-trial detention managed to become an international cause celebre, with Donald Trump contacting the Swedish Prime Minister in an attempt to secure his release. (The Swedish government's response was to note that their constitution expressly forbids politicians -- including the PM -- from interfering with procedings of the court system.)
Trump also sent his Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs, Robert O'Brien, to attend the trial and tneaten 'negative consequences' if the case was not resolved quickly.
The court rejected his claim of self-defense and found him guilty of assault (August 14, 2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was thirteen, his older brother was killed by rival drug dealers.
He, his mother, and his sister lived in homeless shelters.
His self-released singles 'Peso' and 'Purple Swag' sparked a major-label bidding war, leading to a $3 million deal with RCA (2011).
His first two albums debuted at #1 on the BIllboard chart.
He encountered homeless musician Joe Fox on the streets of London and was so impressed by his singing that he featured Fox on five tracks of his second album.
He was signed as the 'face' of Dior Homme, becoming the first black person to represent the brand (2016).
Trump was willing to back his talk with his money, offering to personally guarantee A$AP Rocky's bail. (Although the gesture proved moot, as Sweden does not have a bail system.)
Despite his conviction, he went free, as the Swedish court ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove that the attack was serious enough to warrant further jail time.
