Why he might be annoying:

His mother was a Thracian slave, so he was never able to become more than a half citizen of Athens.
The fact that he purposely wore shabby clothes in an effort look dejected prompted Socrates to say 'Why [are you] so ostentatious? Through your rags I see your vanity.' to him.
He wrote two books, neither of which have survived.
He became a grumpy old man before he died.
He thought that god set up the world to benefit god’s friends.
He liked dressing up like a beggar.

Why he might not be annoying:

He became famous after displaying valor at the battle of Tanagra.
He was a student of Socrates.
After experiencing the setbacks of being denied full citizenship, he opened a school for those who were only half citizens.
The word 'cynic' comes from the name of his school.
He thought that virtue was required to be truly happy.
He believed in hard work.
He gave away all of his belongings.
He lived outside of Athens and traveled great distances every day to listen to Socrates.
