    She will not reveal her year of birth.
    Despite her Oscar nomination, her career did not take off after 'The Color Purple.'
    She took out an Oscar campaign ad that started, 'Dear God: I knows dat I been blessed by Alice Walker, Steven Spielberg and Quincy Jones.'

    She won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for her performance in the play 'Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?' (1973)
