    He is a born-again Christian.
    He is twice divorced.
Before he left the Houston Oilers, he knocked out his coach.
In his interviews, he uses a lot of profanity and speaks negatively about others.
He wrote a commentary about 9/11 that heavily quotes the Bible, and scapegoats homosexuals and other 'sinners' (2001).
As a booker and promoter, he had his talent work grueling tour schedules.
He had a policy that didn’t allow wrestling villains and heroes to socialize together in public.
He tried to put Fritz Von Erich’s WCCW out of business by stealing his talent and booking a lot of matches in Texas.
By the mid-80s, his wrestlers were starting to leave for the NWA or the WWF.
According to Missy Hyatt, he tried preventing her from using her own name in other promotions after she left the UWF.
His ex-wife, Ene, got the master tapes of the Mid-South/UWF shows in their divorce settlement.

He signed the Fabulous Freebirds to the first million-dollar contract in wrestling.
He hired Jim Ross as an office assistant, who then as play-by-play announcer.
He trained ‘Dr. Death’ Steve Williams as wrestler.
He developed successful black wrestlers (such as the Junkyard Dog) in a time when other promotions treated them as novelties.
Most of his Mid-South/UWF roster went on to be become mega stars in the WCW and the WWE.
Thanks to his son, Joel, the production values of the UWF shows were very good for a smaller federation.
When the oil economy in the South was failing, he ended up selling the UWF to the NWA.
