He is an honorary colonel, the Kentucky governor gave him the title (1935).
After stating that KFC gravy tasted like Sludge, he was successfully sued by the then KFC owners (1975).
Dave Thomas help propell Kentucky Fried Chicken into a huge franchise, but then he later fired him.

Why he might not be annoying:

He turned a negative into a positive by promoting the greasiness as 'finger lickin' good.'
He started franchising KFC while on social security (1952).
He sold the franchise for $2 million (February 18, 1964).
He began work at 10 years old on a farm for $2 a month.
He said the ingredients in KFC could be found in just about any kitchen.
