    (May 27, 1818-December 30, 1894)
Born in Courtland County, New York
    Birth name was Amelia Jenks
Published the journal 'The Lily' (1849-53)
President of the Iowa Woman Suffrage Association (1871-73)
Advocate for temperance, abolition, women's rights and dress reform
    Namesake of bloomers
Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote, 'She has not the spirit of the reformer. At the first woman's rights convention, she stood aloof and laughed at us.'
Although her name was associated with bloomers, they were invented by Libby Miller.
Bloomers were subject to constant ridicule in the press and she dropped the fashion (1859), ostensibly because crinolines had made conventional dresses less restrictive.
She was the first woman to own and edit a newspaper for women.
She introduced Susan B. Anthony to Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
She is the namesake of the Amelia Bloomer Project to honor children's books with feminist themes.
