    (April 4, 1957- )
    Born in La Tuna, Mexico
    Mexican drug lord
    Headed the Sinaloa Cartel
    Nicknamed ‘El Chapo’
Called ‘the most powerful drug trafficker in the world’ by the US Treasury Department
Net worth estimated at $1 billion
Arrested in Guatemala, extradited to Mexico and sentenced to 20 years in prison (1993)

Why he might be annoying:

His date of birth is uncertain, with December 25. 1954 also being given.
He began growing marijuana in his teens.
    His nickname means ‘Shorty.’
In the early 1990s, he engaged in a bloody war with the Tijuana Cartel.
He spent over $10 million bribing Mexican police officers.
He was responsible for shipping more illegal drugs to the US than anyone else in history, including 500 tons of cocaine.
He reportedly set up rival drug lords for arrest by leaking information to the Drug Enforcement Agency and US Customs officials.
He maintained his opulent lifestyle in prison, with guards acting as his servants.
When his extradition to the US seemed likely, he bribed the prison guards into letting him escape (January 19, 2001).
He kidnapped a bank clerk he had fallen in love with, forced her to have sex with him, then later married her.
When he was 50, he married an 18-year-old beauty contestant (2007).
His sons followed him into the drug biz.

Why he might not be annoying:

His dad would beat him – especially when he stood up to him to keep his younger siblings from being beaten.
He survived an ambush in which five members of the Tijuana Cartel fired AK-47s at his car (1992).
He was the first person named ‘Public Enemy No. 1’ by the Chicago Crime Commission since Al Capone -- an impressive feat for someone who had never even set foot in Chicago.
His son Edgar was killed by gunmen from a rival cartel (2008).
Authorities were able to track him for his 2016 recapture partly by intercepting cell phone traffic when he arranged to be interviewed for ‘Rolling Stone’ by Sean Penn.
