Served in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division.
Acted in 'The Red Badge of Courage (1951),' 'Gunsmoke (1953),' 'To Hell and Back (1955),' 'The Quiet American (1958),' 'The Unforgiven (1960)' and 'Arizona Raiders (1965)'

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote poetry.
He was married twice.

There is a controversy over what year he was actually born, most say 1924, but others say 1925.
Many of the movies he was in, were about himself.
He was typecast to star in westerns and war films.
He was addicted to gambling.

Why he might not be annoying:

He won 33 medals (the most of any U.S. Soldier) for various acts of bravery during WW II.
He was only 18 years old when he joined the Army.
He is credited with killing over 250 enemy soldiers.
He survived 9 major military campaigns, most notably the invasion of Sicily.
He was wounded three times while fighting in Sicily.
His father left the family when he was 8, and Audie grew up in poverty.
His films earned him close to 3 million dollars in 23 years as an actor.
Along with acting, he was a successful songwriter.
He wrote songs for the likes of Jimmy Bryant, Eddy Arnold, and Dean Martin.
He never thought of himself as a good actor.
He was killed in plane crash during a business trip. The plane crashed into the side of a mountain while flying through a storm near Roanoke, Virginia (May 1971).
