The Resume

    (July 31, 1932-January 16, 1979)
Best known for his role as Lurch in the TV series 'The Addams Family' (1964-66)
Acted in 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969),' 'Mackenna's Gold (1969),' 'Charcoal Black (1972),' 'The Slams (1973),' 'Thunder County (1974),' 'The Great Lester Boggs (1975),' 'Poor Pretty Eddy (1975),' 'Harry and Walter Go to New York (1976),' 'The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977)' and 'Goin' Coconuts (1978)'

Why he might be annoying:

He was worried about being typecast as Lurch if 'The Addams Family' ran too long. It ran for just two seasons, yet his movie career still floundered.
Because of his size (6 feet, 9 inches), his movie roles were limited.
His most famous 'non-Lurch' role was getting kicked in the balls by Paul Newman in 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.'
He stated he was tired of being mistaken for Richard Kiel, who played 'Jaws' in two James Bond movies, saying he did not consider him to be a real actor.
He went uncredited as the voice of Lou Ferrigno in 'The Incredible Hulk' TV series.
His two children grew up to become lawyers.
After he died, his live-in girlfriend had him cremated and buried in the backyard.

Why he might not be annoying:

He played one season of basketball at Stetson University, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds.
He was a staff announcer for a radio station in Dallas when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He ended up interviewing eyewitnesses.
Lurch was supposed to be a non-speaking role, but after the gong sounded, he ad libbed the now famous 'You rang?' line in that deep voice, and it stuck.
Not many know that he was also the hand that played Thing in 'The Addams Family.'
Because roles were scarce for the behemoth, he supplemented his income by doing a lot of cartoon voice over work.
He died of complications after open heart surgery at age 46 (1979).
As a fitting tribute, his last acting role was in the TV miniseries 'Greatest Heroes of the Bible,' portraying Goliath.
