    Hosted his own syndicated TV show (1960-81)
    He was married at age 16, but it was annulled after a year.
    He was committed to Parkview psychiatric hospital for 'exhaustion.' (1966)
    He had a bitter professional break-up with Dolly Parton.
    Parton wrote 'I Will Always Love You' about him.
    Many of his songs were morbid, such as 'Green, Green Grass of Home' (about death row), 'The Cold Hard Facts of Life' (about adultery and murder) and 'The Carroll County Accident' (about adultery and a fatal car crash).
    He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 50 years.
    His TV show introduced Doly Parton and Mel Tillis to the public.
    He and Parton reconciled.
    At 79, he recorded the best-reviewed album of his career, 'The Wagonmaster,' and opened for the White Stripes at Madison Square Garden.
    Pam Tillis explained his resurgence by saying, 'When you're classic like Porter, you don't go out of style.'
