Baseball Player

The Resume

    (April 17, 1820-July 12, 1892)
Born in New York City, New York
Founded the Knickerbocker Baseball Club (1842)
Drew up the 'knickerbocker Rules' which evolved into the modern rules of baseball

Why he might be annoying:

He is less well-known than Abner Doubleday, who had nothing to do with creating baseball.
Some historians suggest that his role in early baseball was embellished by people who wanted a single figure to counter the Doubleday myth.
Although they had written the rules, his Knickerbockers lost their first competitive game to the New York Nine by a score of 23-1 (June 19, 1846).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a volunteer firefighter in Manhattan and founded the fire department of Honolulu.
He established a baseball league in Hawaii that served as a model for the National League.
Congress officially credited him with inventing the modern game of baseball (1953).
