Why she might be annoying:

She may have cheated on her husband with men and women.
Her prose could be a trifle melodramatic.
In some of her books, she used 'Venetian' as a code word for bisexual.
Critics dismissed her work as 'chick lit.'
She was quoted as saying, 'No one could be more bored with the 'L' (lesbian) people than I am.'
Father figures were usually lampooned in her books.
Ironically, her son Christian was attacked by birds in front of his home.

Why she might not be annoying:

Critics claim she was one of the finest modern writers to come out of England.
Several of her novels and short stories have been adapted into films, most notably 'Rebecca' and 'The Birds' directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
She was married to the same man for thirty-two years.
Her family had a good reputation in the world of literature and art.
Writer George du Maurier was her grandfather.
She wrote in many genres, including Gothic, horror, historical and biographies.
