    (April 19, 1897-June 12, 2013)
    Born in Kyotango, Japan
    Birth name was Kinjiro Miyake
    Former postal worker
Died at age 116 years 54 days
Recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-lived man whose age could be verified
Another Japanese man, Shigechiyo Izumi, was once recognized by Guinness for living to 120, but Izumi's claim has since been disputed.
He credited his long life to waking early, eating small meals and following parliamentary debates on TV. (Boring!)
During his last couple of years, he spent most of his time in bed.
He may have been the oldest man ever, but he was still six years short of breaking Jeanne Calment's overall record.
He took his wife's last name since her family lacked a male heir.
Although he officially retired at 65, he helped out on his son's farm until he was 90.
He outlived two of his seven children and one of 14 grandchildren.
He was the last surviving man born in the 19th century.
He lived from before the first airplane flight to after the launching of the International Space Station.
