Basketball Coach
    (March 11, 1966- )
    Known as ‘JT-3’
    Son of John Thompson
    Head Coach, Princeton (2000-2004)
    Georgetown (2004- )
In a town full of conspiracies, it was no secret that he was the only person Georgetown really wanted to replace Craig Esherick.
By virtue of his name, the bar has been set ridiculously high by Georgetown alumni.
As was the case in ‘The Godfather,' his father didn’t want him to get into the family business, telling him, ‘I didn’t spend all that money on an Ivy League education for your ass to end up in coaching.’
No matter what he achieves, he will always live in the shadow of his father, who is deified in the DC basketball scene.
Yes, he has the name and the ‘pedigree,’ but he is quickly proving to be a great coach in his own right.
Like his father, he vehemently emphasizes education, doesn’t tolerate any shit from his players, and isn’t afraid to chew out a star.
Rather than take the safe route and go to Georgetown, he chose to attend Princeton, where he earned his BA in political science.
He has brought Hoya Paranoia (attitude, intensity, swagger, snarl, and execution) back to Georgetown.
In just his second season at Georgetown, he upended undefeated #1 Duke and returned Hoya basketball to national prominence
Although he was educated at some of the finest institutions in America, he brings ‘street cred,’ respect and toughness back to the Georgetown program.
He looks just like his father.
