Why he might be annoying:

Some of his relatives staying in Europe were extinguished by the Nazis.
He spent his childhood in Buenos Aires, where he developed a reputation as a clown.
He resembled Benny Hill.
Albert Uderzo, whom he met in 1951, initially interpreted his name as ‘Gossini’ due to his own Italian roots.
In lampooning Barbe-Rouge (Red Beard) for Asterix, he caused a Weird Al effect — the parody being much better known than the long-since forgotten original.

Why he might not be annoying:

He began his career mainly as an artist.
An uncle who had already settled there invited him to stay in New York City.
Following a stint in the French Army, he returned stateside to work alongside the founders of Mad.
For his iconic character, he incorporated gags about Caesar for French schoolchildren who used the Commentarii de Bello Gallico (Commentaries on the Gallic War).
Like his collaborator, he is the father of one child, a daughter.
His will left the bulk of his cash to the chief rabbinate of France.
