The Resume

    (1509-April 4, 1566)
    Born in Volterra, Italy
    Birth name was Daniele Ricciarelli
    Italian Mannerist painter and sculptor
Paintings include ‘Descent from the Cross,’ ‘Massacre of the Innocents’ and ‘David Slaying Goliath’
Sculptures include ‘St. Peter,’ ‘St. Paul’ and ‘Cleopatra’

Why he might be annoying:

His work is derivative of Michelangelo’s.
In fact, some of his works were mistakenly credited to Michelangelo.
He was nicknamed ‘Il Braghettone’ (‘the breeches maker’) after the Vatican hired him to paint loincloths and fig leafs on the nude figures in ‘Michelangelo’s ‘The Last Judgment.’
He also completely repainted the figures of St. Catherine and St. Blaise due to complaints that in the original painting, Blaise appeared to be checking out Catherine’s ass.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was good friends with Michelangelo, who convinced Pope Paul III to name him superintendent of works at the Vatican.
His bust of Michelangelo, based on his death mask, is considered the finest surviving image of the artist.
At the height of his reputation, his ‘Descent from the Cross’ was considered, along with Raphael’s ‘Transfiguration’ and Domenchino’s ‘Last Communion of St. Jerome,’ one of the most famous paintings in Rome.
