Megan killed herself after ‘Josh’ began attacking her (October 17, 2007)
Indicted on three counts of computer fraud and one of conspiracy (May 15, 2007)
Found not guilty of computer fraud; jury deadlocked on conspiracy charge (November 26, 2008)

She bragged about her plans to humiliate Megan.
She went after Megan even though she knew she had a history of depression.
She planned to embarrass Megan further by printing out her conversations with Josh and showing them to her friends.
As ‘Josh’ she used sexually suggestive language in some of her exchanges.
When asked if she felt any guilt over Megan’s death, she said, ‘It’s not like I pulled the trigger.’
Missouri authorities couldn’t lay charges because there were no laws against cyberbullying at the time.

She was angry at Megan because she had been making fun of her daughter Sarah.
Her 18 year old employee Ashley Grills and Sarah may have sent the most vicious of the messages.
Many felt the federal charges of computer fraud were inappropriate.
She became a target of cyber harassment herself when a blogger posted her name, phone number and address online.
Public condemnation lead to her and her husband losing their coupon book business.
Her case led to several cities and states passing laws banning online bullying.
