Why La Paz, Bolivia might be annoying:

    It was besieged for six months by indigenous Aymara led by Tupac Katari (1781).
    It splits capital city duties with Sucre. (The executive and legislative are located in La Paz, the judiciary in Sucre.)
    The Presidential residence is known as Palacio Quemado (Burnt Palace) because it was set on fire during an 1875 revolt.
    President Gualberto Villarroel was killed when a mob stormed the Palacio Quemado and hanged him from a lamppost (July 21, 1946).
    Despite being only sixteen degrees from the equator, the altitude results in temperatures similar to those of Bergen, Norway.
    Heavy rainfalls often result in destructive mudslides during summer.

    A revolt here led by Pedro Domingo Murillo is considered the start of the Spanish America Wars of Independence (July 16, 1809).
    It is home to the largest cable car network in the world.
