Why she might be annoying:

There were rampant rumors that she was a lesbian because she lived with fellow Wellesley College professor Katharine Corman.
The local historical society of her birthplace maintains that her relationship with Corman was platonic.
She might be mistaken for Oscar winning actress Kathy Bates.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was inspired to write 'America, The Beautiful' after reaching the summit of Pike's Peak in Colorado.
She first came up with the idea of a Mrs. Claus, a wife for Santa Claus, in her poem 'Goody Santa Claus on a Sleigh Ride from the collection Sunshine and other Verses for Children.'
She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
'America, the Beautiful' became a song of American patriotism that is still revered.
