Outlaw
    (September 4, 1983- )
    Born in Minnesota
Convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual misconduct for having sex with a 14-year-old girl when he was 18
Visited Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota three times as a prospective student (January, 2006)
Claimed he was Caspian James Crichton-Stuart IV, 5th Duke of Cleveland
When he visited Stillwater, he was 22 posing as 17.
He claimed he was 27th in line to the British throne and was good friends with Prince Harry.
He insisted on being called 'your Grace,' even by the school principal.
Journalists at the school newspaper wondered why a member of British royalty would be scouting schools in Minnesota.
A call to the British consulate confirmed that there has not been a Duke of Cleveland since 1891.
He misspelled the name of the castle he claimed to live in.
He had a MySpace page on which he listed his goal as 'To not make the front page of any paper.' (I don't think that worked out.)
After media coverage of his Stillwater visits, a 15-year-old male student at another high school came forward, resulting in three additional sexual-conduct charges, including two felonies (July, 2006).
The Stillwater principal noted that all of Gardner's visits to the school had been supervised by staffers.
The principal also praised the student journalists' investigative skills.
The journalists found Gardner's real name from a Wikipedia article on 'Caspian James Crichton-Stuart IV' that was marked for deletion.
He said that in forming his royal identity, he took Caspian from the 'Chronicles of Narnia' and Crichton from author Michael Crichton.
