    It has been devastated by 8 floods (1840-1841, 1869, 1874, 1878, 1924, 1946 and 1988).
    Ten diplomats were taken hostage by Black September at the city's Saudi Embassy (March 1, 1973)
    Osama Bin Laden used to live here.
    Two people were killed and one person was injured in a Yarmouk munitions factory explosion (October 23, 2012).
    Over 120 people were killed, over 600 were injured and 70 were raped in the Khartoum massacre (June 3, 2019).

    It has Sudan's biggest focus on economic activity.
