The Resume

    (December 22, 1938-November 3, 2011)
Born in Bajos de Haina, Dominican Republic
Birth name was Mateo Rojas Alou
Outfielder for the San Francisco Giants (1960-65), Pittsburgh Pirates (1966-70), St. Louis Cardinals (1971-72,1973), Oakland Athletics (1972), New York Yankees (1973), San Diego Padres (1974) and Taiheiyo Club Lions (1974-76)
    Lifetime batting average of .307
    Two-time All-Star (1968-69)
Brother of Felipe and Jesus Alou

Why he might be annoying:

During his years with the Giants, when Felipe was an established star and Jesus was a hot prospect, he was generally viewed as 'that other Alou.'
He had a good average but poor power, with only 31 homers out of 1,777 career hits.
He went one for 24 in the 1972 World Series.
His unorthodox batting stance prompted Ted Williams to say that he 'violates every hitting principle I ever taught' and Steve Carlton to call him 'the worst .300 hitter I've ever seen.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left-handed.
He, Felipe and Jesus formed Major League Baseball's first all-sibling outfield (September 10, 1963).
When he was traded to the Pirates, manager Harry 'the Hat' Walker instructed him to stop pulling every hit to right field and his average increased 80 points.
He won the 1966 National League batting title with Felipe in second place -- the first (and through 2011 only) time siblings held the top two positions.
A career batting average over .300 is nothing to sneeze at (especially in an era dominated by pitching), no matter how ugly one looked achieving it.
He was inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum's Hall of Fame (2007).
