    His nickname was 'Candyman.'
    When he was a teenager, he appeared in a tryout for the Dodgers as he wore a shirt with a marijuana leaf which reads, 'Try some, you'll like it.'
    He was injury prone.
    He gave up 29 home runs during the 1977 season.
    He became a journeyman player after leaving Pittsburgh.
    He only made one All-Star appearance in his career.
    He once beaned Cal Ripken, Jr. during an exhibition game at the time of his consecutive games played streak.

    He played basketball in Puerto Rico prior to starting his MLB career.
    He threw and batted left handed.
    He set the NLCS rookie record in strikeouts (14) (1975).
    He threw a no-hitter as he became the first Pirate to do so (August 9, 1976).
    During the 1977 season, he had a career high of winning 20 games with a percentage of .800 and pitched an ERA of 2.34.
    He only had a losing season just once.
    He tossed a shutout during Game 6 of the 1979 World Series.
    His son died in a swimming pool accident (1985).
    He was the first Angel to win the AL Comeback Player of the Award.
