Why Kiev, Ukraine might be annoying:

It was destroyed by the Mongols (1240).
Much of its history was under foreign rule (Mongols, Lithuanian, Polish, and finally Russian).
Russian Tsars subjected it to Russification (19th Century).
Its large Jewish population was under persecution by the Tsars.
After the Russian Revolution, it gained brief independence before the succumbing to the Communists (1920).
Joseph Stalin devastated it with his Great Purges during the 1930s.
The Germans slaughtered 33,771 Jews after they captured it during WW II.
It went through population decline during the 1950s.
It was affected by the Chorynobyl accident (1986).
It was the site of mass protests over the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election.
It is either pronounced and spelled Kiev or Kyiv.

Why Kiev, Ukraine might not be annoying:

It is one of Ukraine's tourist sites.
It was founded as a trading post between Scandinavia and Constantinople.
It's the home of the Cossacks.
It was awarded the title Hero City during WW II.
