Why she might be annoying:

    She is one of the most famous women of the silent era, yet she has only two screen credits to her name.
    When World War II broke out, she fled France for Buenos Aires.
    Carl Theodor Dreyer forced her to shave her head and kneel on rocks so her pain would look authentic in the film.
    We can only see her performance in 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' because of dumb luck. What was thought to be the only existing copy of the original print of 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' was destroyed by a fire, so Dreyer recreated the movie by editing together the outtakes. When the only existing print of the second version was destroyed, it was thought to be lost to the world forever, but a janitor at a Norwegian mental asylum found a copy of Dreyer's original edit 1981.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was a famous Parisian stage actress when Dreyer cast her as Joan of Arc.
    She had an expressive face that was perfect for silent films.
    She was a theater producer.
    She had mesmerizing eyes.
    Noted film critic Pauline Kael said of her work in 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' that 'It may be the finest performance ever recorded on film.'
