Acted in 'Penny Serenade (1941),' 'Tombstone, the Town Too Tough to Die (1942),' 'The Talk of the Town (1942),' 'The Man from Colorado (1948),' 'Cheaper by the Dozen (1950),' 'She Couldn't Say No (1954),' 'Ride the High Country (1962),' 'McLintock! (1963),' 'Move Over, Darling (1963)' and 'Benji (1974)'
Died of a stroke complicated by pneumonia in Palm Desert, CA at age 76

Why he might be annoying:

At age 36, he gave up a successful dental practice to become an actor.
On the set, he once pulled a tooth from Jack Henderson, his stand-in of 25 years.
He had a raspy, gravelly voice.
Once 'Petticoat Junction's' Bea Benaderet died in 1968, he and show newcomer June Lockhart tried to keep it afloat, but ratings plummeted, and it was canceled less than two years later.

Why he might not be annoying:

He became a dentist in the first place because it was also his father's chosen profession.
He met his future wife in dental school, and they were married for over 50 years until his death.
He appeared in over 160 movies and TV shows, including 13 with his pal Glenn Ford .
Along with Linda Kaye Henning and Frank Cady, he was with 'Petticoat Junction' its entire seven year run.
His last movie was 1974's 'Benji,' where he co-starred with animal actor Higgins, who portrayed both Benji and Dog in 'Petticoat Junction.'
