    Growing up, he would shoot clothespins of his aunt's laundry line with a BB gun.
    He lied about his age to join the Civilian Military Training Corps at 16.
    When he arrested Arthur 'Doc' Barker, Barker complained about being busted by a 'damn baby-faced kid.'
    He finished only 12th at the Olympics.
    He was left handed.
    He took bullets in the hand, shoulder and chest during the bust that resulted in the arrest or death of the members of the Al Brady gang (October 12, 1937).
    During the Battle of Okinawa, he killed an enemy sniper from 80 yards away with a single pistol shot.
    The Marine Corps' trophy for pistol marksmanship is named after him.
    He received awards for his marksmanship into his 90s and was coaching the US Olympic shooting team at age 92.
    He was a guest of honor at the FBI's 100th anniversary celebration -- where it was noted that he was a year older than the agency itself.
